Why is it important to be certified?
In addition to being an indicator of competence and a certain level of knowledge in the relevant specialty, some specialties (e.g. nurse practitioners) require certification in order to practice in various states.
Certification in a particular specialty (e.g. oncology, critical care) may be required for nurses to teach in clinical settings. Explore more certification opportunities from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) through the American Nurses Association (ANA) here: ANCC Certifications
- Nursing Professional Development Certification (NPD-BC) is designed for nurses who are educators in hospitals and healthcare settings.
